A Sonnet to the City of Bata

by

Secundino Oyono

It emulates Bata, the decked-out nymph,

That you contemplate the endless blue sky.

And you fall limp like jasmine.

Into the arms of the curled sea.

Whose word could I have accommodated?

Your streets that are like violin notes,

Very controlled, getting dressed in carmine

Oh, the view, jeweled swan!

See how the glittering tower

In the forum, stands tall with tenderness,

Like a giant dressed in wings

As at the foot of it a plaza with finesse

And a flowery aroma, welcomes us gallantly;

He is a bad judge, who does not declare your beauty!
